The Ruth S. Pugh Foundation

The Ruth S. Pugh Foundation, Inc. was created in 1998 to further the great efforts of Ruth Pugh. As one of the first special education teachers in Newberry County, her efforts extended beyond the classroom. Ruth Pugh encouraged community integration for people with disabilities and special needs. She supported people to be included in the community, recognizing that people with disabilities are people first.

As a 501 (c) 3 organization, the Ruth S. Pugh Foundation consists of nine board members and provides opportunities for people with disabilities and special needs to participate in the life of the community.

The Ruth S. Pugh Foundation works together with other organizations such as the Voices for PRIDE, self advocacy committee to enhance supports to people in the community.

After Hours

Through the After Hours Program, opportunities for participation in the community are provided. People choose a support staff that will accompany them on outings such as shopping, dining, movies, or other recreation activities of their choice. The support staff provides transportation and other supports which the person may need.

Having an after hours program means people can independently plan outings of their choice, without depending on family for transportation and support.

Family Support

The Ruth S. Pugh Foundation supports family unity by providing one time funds to help families in time of need. These funds are used to assist in food, clothing and shelter needs.

Our Mission

To support people to realize their individual dreams and expectations.
